And now, for a little game audio philosophy…

Music

Music is emotion.  The feelings one experiences through music reflect the dynamics of life – strength, joy, tension, apprehension, discovery, energy, ease, passion.

Combining emotion that is heard with the vivid stimulus of what is seen is the art of blending music and images - Music Composition.

Original, excellent, appropriate, timely – these are the expectations attained at Rip Street Audio.

Music is a subjective thing.  So every effort is made to ascertain the true emotional intention of the producers and developers of images, stories, characters, and games.

Clear questions are asked and re-asked.  Examples are cited, acquired and heard.  Samples are developed and re-developed.  And soon, themes emerge…motifs…styles…sounds…emotion, unique to the project fabric creating temperament, spirit and signature.

Sound Design

Sound is life.  The trickle of a mountain stream, the call of a hawk in flight, the laughter of children at play, the angry slam of a door, the report of a cannon in battle, the roar of a crowd.

Sound is reality.  Making images real by applying sounds that fit is the art of Sound Design.

Unique, excellent, suitable, apt – these are the expectations attained at Rip Street Audio.

Sounds shouldn’t be ordinary.  So every effort is made to reflect the extraordinary vision of the producers and developers of images, stories, characters, and games.

A project is outlined.  Audio needs are determined.  Sound libraries are opened.  And expanded.  And expanded some more.  Original sounds are created from imagination.  And soon, whispers and shouts…rustling and pounding… whirring and explosion are added, unique to the project fabric creating nature, character and personality.  Reality achieved.

Voice Over

A character speaks.  It's not so much what they say as how they say it.  The inflection in the voice.  The lilt to the speech.  The accent that reveals an undeniable past.

Sometimes you just have to say it to get the message across.  Putting words into the mouths of images is the art of Voice Over.

Interesting, excellent, noteworthy, fascinating – these are the expectations attained at Rip Street Audio.

Voice goes to the heart of a character.  So every effort is made to inhabit the intriguing personas created in the minds of the producers and developers of images, stories, characters, and games.

A character is discovered.  Personality is detailed.  Temperament is revealed.  Motivations are explained.  Scripts are rendered.  A voice talent is auditioned and chosen.  And soon, muses opine… villains threaten… strangers lend direction onward and words come to life, weaving living traits into the project fabric creating authenticity, substance, and wonder.

Game Implementation

Playing a video game is fun.  The player silently speaks to the game-maker, ‘I’m willing to suspend my belief… take me into your reality.’  The theme music swells, the art is revealed, after a few directions, characters speak and the story – the quest - unfolds.

Nothing should distract a player from being immersed in this fantasy.  Making sound flow as a natural extension of this new world is the art of Audio Implementation.

Natural, excellent, consistent, inspiring – these are the expectations attained at Rip Street Audio.

The sound has to be right.  So every effort is made to accurately fill the aural universe designed by the producers and developers of images, stories, characters, and games.

Audio engines are chosen.  Sound design tools are handled.  Music and sound effect banks are filled.  Randomization schemes are controlled.  Sounds are place in the 3D virtual world – attached to animations.  Music stems are arranged.  And soon, the forest whispers the time of day… footsteps fall naturally… racers shift through their gears seamlessly… music intensifies and the din of the battle cries the outcome, true to the project fabric creating nuance, dependability, and belief.
